East Anglian News
The Right Reverend Michael Evans

Bishop Michael has written to his diocese to say that he has been diagnosed with "cancer at an advanced stage".
“Investigations over the last month or so have confirmed what I feared: that I have cancer at an advanced stage,” he said.
“Only time will tell what the prospects are, but I wanted to tell you partly because the condition and treatment are bound to disrupt my diary from time to time, but also because you are my diocesan family and I would deeply appreciate your prayers.”
“I hope to serve the diocese actively for as long as possible. For now, I will be your bishop living and journeying with cancer, joining those many others in our diocese for whom serious illness is an ordinary part of life. It will make all the difference knowing that I have your prayerful support.”
Please pray for Bishop Michael and his parishoners through this difficult time.
Update July 2006
From Bishop Michael Evans
Many of you have very kindly kept me in your thoughts and prayers over the months since last November when it was announced that I had advanced and aggressive prostate cancer. I really am most grateful.
My medical team have now decided that I am ready for radiotherapy. From 1st-29th August, I will be having a radiotherapy session each weekday. It may take a while to recover, and so I am trying to keep August free of engagements and September as free as possible (although I hope to fulfil the engagements I already have in my diary).
Unfortunately, the dates for radiotherapy mean that I will not be able to join the Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes.
Please keep me in your prayers."
