THE ACCUEIL OF LOURDESLourdes has undergone a major transformation over the last few years with the redevelopment of the facilities for the care of the sick. Those pilgrims who come to Lourdes who are unable to stay in a hotel and need some care and medical attention will stay at one of the Accueils in the heart of Lourdes. Lourdes was originally served by three Accueils, namely the St Frai in the town, the Notre Dame on the Esplanade and the Salle Bernadette which lay on the other side of the Gave River opposite the Notre Dame. The authorities in Lourdes have now completed the redevelopment of the Accueil facilities with the replacement of the Salle Bernadette with the new Accueil Notre Dame lying in the domaine, facing the Grotto and the complete refurbishment and development of the Accueil St Frai in the old town. The Accueils are neither a hotel nor a hospital, but are adapted to the specific needs of the sick and disabled coming to Lourdes on pilgrimage. They are accommodation centres providing medical care and above all a smile and a welcome to all new guests.
